eXch alternative: where to swap after the shutdown

NoxSwap Team

For years eXch was a name that came up whenever someone wanted to swap crypto without an account, especially into Monero. In spring 2025 it disappeared: first an announcement that it would close, then a seizure by German authorities. More than a year later, people still search for an eXch alternative. Here is what happened, what it means if you used it, and how to choose a replacement that is discreet without being reckless.

What happened to eXch

On April 17, 2025, eXch announced that it would stop operating on May 1, 2025. In its statement the team said it had become the target of a joint law enforcement operation and that continuing no longer made sense.

On April 30, 2025, a day before the planned closure, Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the cybercrime unit of the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office seized eXch's server infrastructure in Germany, together with crypto worth about 34 million euros and around 8 terabytes of data. The BKA announced the operation on May 9, 2025.

Why it was taken down

German authorities suspect that eXch handled about 1.9 billion US dollars in crypto since 2014, and that part of the loot from the February 2025 Bybit hack, attributed to North Korean hackers, passed through it.

The key detail is in the BKA's statement: eXch advertised that it did not apply any anti-money laundering measures. That is what made it attractive to criminals, and that is what ended it. When a service is built on having no rules at all, its ordinary users carry the risk too: a seizure can come without warning, and funds in transit end up inside someone else's legal case.

I used eXch. What now?

If you used eXch for ordinary swaps, there is nothing you need to do: completed swaps are in your wallet. If a swap was still pending at the end of April 2025, the service no longer exists to process it, and there is no official support channel left.

Be careful with anyone who offers to recover eXch funds, sells "eXch refunds" or presents a new site under the eXch name. These are classic follow-up scams after a service closes. Never send crypto to unlock a refund, and never share your seed phrase or private keys.

Discreet is not the same as lawless

eXch's story shows the difference between two kinds of no-account services. One kind asks for no identity documents on everyday swaps but still screens for stolen funds and sanctions, like any legitimate business. The other advertises that it checks nothing at all. The first can run for years; the second becomes a liability for everyone who uses it.

For ordinary users that is good news. You can keep the convenience of swapping without an account and without ID, and still use a service that will not vanish overnight.

What to look for in an eXch alternative

1. No account and no ID for standard swaps.

2. A clear, published policy for flagged transactions, ideally a refund if you decline a check.

3. A fixed rate, so you know the exact amount before you send.

4. Monero in both directions, plus the networks you use, such as USDT on TRON.

5. A verifiable identity: an official mirror list, signed messages and support you can actually reach.

6. A track record without unexplained frozen funds.

Why former eXch users choose NoxSwap

NoxSwap is built for people who want the convenience eXch offered, without its risks. There is no registration, no account and no e-mail, and standard swaps need no KYC. Every swap is executed by an established exchange partner at a fixed rate with all fees included: the amount you see is the amount that arrives in your wallet.

We are open about the rules. About 0.5% of transactions, large or flagged ones, may get an additional AML check by the executing partner. If you decline it, your deposit is refunded minus only the network fee. That is the difference between discreet and lawless, and it is why a swap here does not depend on luck.

We store no IP addresses, anonymize order records after 90 days and run an official Tor mirror listed in a PGP-signed mirrors.txt. Every order comes with a PGP-signed letter of guarantee that you can verify yourself.

Other options worth knowing

If you want to compare more services, our guide to the best no-KYC exchanges of 2026 rates instant exchanges, aggregators and peer-to-peer tools by the same eight criteria, including how each one treats flagged transactions.

For BTC to XMR only, atomic swaps with eigenwallet, formerly UnstoppableSwap, remove the middleman entirely, at the cost of speed and convenience.

Frequently asked questions

Is eXch still working? No. eXch announced its closure for May 1, 2025, and German authorities seized its servers on April 30, 2025. Treat any site presenting itself as eXch today with suspicion.

Why was eXch shut down? German authorities say it was used to launder criminal proceeds, including part of the Bybit hack, and that it advertised having no anti-money laundering measures.

Can I get my funds back from eXch? There is no official eXch support anymore. Be wary of anyone offering recovery services; asking for an upfront payment is a typical scam.

What is the best eXch alternative? Look for a no-account service with a fixed rate, Monero support and a published policy for flagged transactions. NoxSwap offers all of that, with a refund if you decline an AML check.

Does NoxSwap require KYC? Not for standard swaps. About 0.5% of transactions may get an additional AML check by the executing partner; declining it means a refund minus the network fee.
