How to swap crypto over Tor, step by step
NoxSwap Team
Tor hides your IP address from the sites you visit and hides which sites you visit from your internet provider. For a crypto swap that means one less trace linking you to an order. NoxSwap runs an official onion mirror with the same rates and the same 500+ coins as the regular site. This guide shows how to use it safely, from opening the right address to the settings that keep the swap form working, and it is honest about what Tor does not protect.
What Tor protects, and what it doesn't
Over Tor, your connection passes through three relays before it reaches the site, so the site never sees your real IP address and your provider only sees that you use Tor. Onion services go one step further: the connection never leaves the Tor network, so there is no exit relay that could watch or alter the traffic.
Tor does not hide what happens on the blockchain. The deposit you send and the payout you receive are public on most chains, Monero being the main exception. Tor also cannot help if you log into accounts that identify you, or paste an address you reuse everywhere. Think of it as one layer of privacy, not all of it.
Get Tor Browser from the official source
Download Tor Browser only from torproject.org, or from the official app stores for Android. Copies offered elsewhere may be modified. On iOS, use Onion Browser, which the Tor Project recommends.
Keep it updated. Tor Browser updates itself, and an outdated version is the most common reason onion sites refuse to load or behave strangely.
Open the official NoxSwap onion mirror
The official address is noxswap46e5kyuum33rcv4vno2icnkkpzw4bgbbgg5cedxwfztl27mqd.onion. The simplest way to reach it is to open noxswap.io in Tor Browser and click the purple .onion available button in the address bar: Tor Browser reads our announcement and takes you to the right mirror.
Always compare the full address, not just the first letters. Anyone can create an onion address that begins with noxswap, so a fake mirror can look right at a glance. Our official addresses are also published in a PGP-signed list on our verification page, which you can check with the same tools as a letter of guarantee.
Settings that keep the swap working
The swap form needs JavaScript, so Tor Browser's Safest security level, which turns JavaScript off everywhere, will stop it from working. The Standard level works. If you normally browse on Safest, switch levels for the swap and switch back afterwards.
Onion pages can load a little slower than the regular site, because every request travels through the Tor network. Give the quote a few seconds. If a page hangs, request a new circuit for the site from the menu next to the address bar and try again.
Doing the swap
The mirror works exactly like the regular site. Pick the pair, enter the amount and your receiving address, add a refund address, and create the order. Save the order ID and the signed letter of guarantee before you send, and check that the deposit address in the letter matches the one on screen.
Send the exact amount within the deposit window, about 10 minutes for a fixed-rate quote. You can follow the order on the onion mirror or on the regular site; it is the same order either way.
The same rules apply over Tor
Our Terms and country restrictions apply on the mirror too. The service is not available in Russia, Belarus and countries under comprehensive sanctions, and the mirror is not a way around that. Large or flagged swaps can be checked by our exchange partner on the mirror just as on the regular site, and the same refund rule applies if you decline the check.
Tor is legal in most countries and used daily by journalists, researchers and ordinary people who value privacy. Using it for a swap is simply choosing a more private connection.
